REMOVAL OF BLOOD AND BODY FLUID

SPILLS FROM CARPET

The OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen Standard (29 CFR ¡±1910.1030) does not specifically address the removal of blood or body fluid spills from carpet.  This memo is intended to offer a possible method of clean up and may or may not be considered acceptable by OSHA.

Procedure:

Step 1: While wearing appropriate personal protective equipment, blot up fluid with absorbent
cloth and dispose in regulated waste bag.
Step 2: Extract area with Buckeye Jet Stream.
Step 3: Following label instructions, extract with Buckeye Awaken Carpet Cleaner/Sanitizer.
Allow carpet to dry before allowing traffic on the area.  Or extract carpet with one of the
following other products: Buckeye Sanicare Quat 64, 128 or 256, Buckeye Sanicare Lemon, Mint or Pine Quat Sanicare TBX, Buckeye Terminator, Buckeye Supergard.
Step 4: Following label instructions, disinfect the extraction equipment with one of the following
products: Buckeye Sanicare Quat 64, 128 or 256, Buckeye Sanicare Lemon, Mint or
Pine Quat Sanicare TBX, Buckeye Terminator, or Buckeye Supergard.  Disinfect the
exterior as you would any other hard surface, and disinfect the interior by vacuuming
approximately one gallon of use solution into the machine.
